A candidate to the new RSA Fellowship council, Susan Jones offers entrepreneurship and small business acumen, her understanding of the potential of new technology as a force for social change and in-depth expertise within contemporary visual arts.
A non-profit arts business, a-n’s mission is to stimulate and support contemporary visual arts practice and affirm artists’ value in society. Appointed in 1999, Susan Jones has successfully led rejuvenation of this traditional book and magazine publishing company, increasing audiences by 30% and retaining its leadership in its field through imaginative applications of Web 2.0 technology designed to nurture and sustain its communities of interest and support cultural advocacy. A published visual arts researcher, she is active expert contributor on artists’ livelihoods and professional development matters within UK and international peer networks including Paradox, Interartes, CreativePeople and N-Ten. She was a NESTA Creative Investments Nominator in 2005.
She has served on committees including Arts Council of Great Britain, Northern Arts, Visual Arts and Galleries Association and Northern Cultural Skills Partnership. She has provided evidence to the CMS Select Committee Inquiry into the Market for Art (2006) and Arts Council reviews including on artists’ livelihoods (2002), Turning Point (2006) and RFO Peer Review (2009).
