Andrew Summers CMG
Andrew Summers works as chairman, board member and advisor to companies
and governments worldwide with an emphasis on strategy and innovation.
He is currently the Chairman of Companies House.
He is also the
Director of engineering consultancy Ramboll Whitbybird Ltd and Chairman
of Design Partners UK, the industry/government body which supports
design companies internationally.
Until 2003 he was Chief
Executive of the Design Council where he led a major project to promote
UK competitiveness through the best use of design. Previously he was
Chief Executive of the Management Charter Initiative. He has also been a
board member of the DTI Small Business Service, British Trade
International, and Chairman of the DTI European Trade Committee.
His
industrial experience has been mainly in the food industry where he was
Managing Director of Sharwood's and most recently non-executive director
of New Covent Garden Foods. He was Chairman of strategy consultancy
Brandsmiths until 2006.
His education activities include being a
board member of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education,
governor of the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama and member of the
Board of Companions of the Chartered Management Institute.
He has
a Natural Sciences and Economics degree from Cambridge University and
has also studied at Harvard Business School. He has an honorary
doctorate from the University of Westminster, is Adjunct Professor at
the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Senior Fellow at the Design
Management Institute (USA) and a Companion of the Chartered Management
Institute.
