RSA Vision

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike we invite a panel of key players and commentators to look back at one of the defining moments of modern British history.

In a revelatory new book Marching to the Fault Line leading journalists Francis Beckett and David Hencke have drawn upon their unrivalled access to key government and union players to get to the heart of the story of the strike, from Downing Street to the picket lines.

They are joined at the RSA by Neil Kinnock and David Hunt to discuss the dramatic events which unfolded over the 11 months of the strike, and to consider the lasting legacy of the strike which ended a way of life for hundreds of thousands as Attlee’s vision of a welfare state, trade unions and strong government was replaced by Thatcher’s Britain.

Speakers; Lord Kinnock, former Leader of the Labour Party, Lord Hunt, former Coal Minister, David Hencke, Westminster correspondent, The Guardian and Francis Beckett, writer, broadcaster, contemporary historian.
