Is Islam’s great civilisation irrevocably lost?

What does its decline mean for Muslims and the world?

Can Islamic civilisation be revived in the face of globalisation? Should it be revived?

Former cabinet minister in post-invasion Iraq, Ali A. Allawi visits the RSA to discuss his new book The Crisis of Islamic Civilisation (Yale University Press, 2009) and to argue that the best hope for the world’s Muslims is a rejuvenated Islamic civilisation – one that unites the inner world of Islamic spirituality with a public outer world that is also genuinely Islamic.

Speaker: Ali A Allawi, author, scholar and former Cabinet Minister in the post-war Iraqi governments.

Chair: Dr Maha Azzam, associate fellow, Middle East and North Africa Programme, Chatham House
