Join the Rt Hon David Lammy MP, minister for higher education and intellectual property, at the RSA as he delivers an important speech on the value of higher education.

Without universities, our society would be poorer in all senses. Universities are not only drivers of economic growth and hubs of innovation, but also beacons of scholarship and centres of culture.

At a time when the recession is causing many people to focus mainly on the economic impact of universities, Higher Education Minister David Lammy will talk about why he also believes in higher learning for its own sake and in the intrinsic value of the liberal arts.

Respondent: Professor Geoffrey Crossick, Warden of Goldsmith's, University of London.
