Essay 1: 21st century enlightenment by Matthew Taylor

RSA Keynote

In his annual lecture RSA chief executive, Matthew Taylor will explore what we mean by the idea of 21st century enlightenment and why he thinks the original enlightenment period was not just about new ideas but a more fundamental shift in consciousness.

Matthew will discuss whether another such shift is required for us to meet the challenges we face today – such as tackling climate change, achieving human security and dignity on a global scale and promoting human fulfilment and well-being – and the role that can be played by institutions such as the RSA.

Chair: Madeleine Bunting, Guardian columnist and associate editor
