RSA Albert Medal Lecture

Jeremy Deller, contemporary visual artist is awarded the 2010 Albert Medal for creating art that encourages public responses and creativity.

Jeremy will present ‘You Need Friends’, an account of how he came to generate innovative art that draws together popular forms of art and engagement.

The Albert Medal was first awarded in 1864, the medal was created as a memorial to Prince Albert, who had been President of the Society for 18 years. It was originally given 'for distinguished merit in promoting Arts, Manufactures and Commerce'.

Today, it acknowledges individuals who contribute to social innovation. With this years award of the Albert Medal the emphasis is on the creative act of social innovation – bringing together different things in order to create something new.
