RSA Debate

Gallup and Healthways this January launched a daily well-being survey in the United Kingdom to provide government and business leaders with more comprehensive data on residents’ health and well-being.

Gallup and Healthways invite you to join the discussion on well-being and learn more as they unveil the first findings at this New Metrics for a New Era: The Gallup-Healthways UK Well-Being Index event, organised in partnership with the RSA.

Leaders can no longer rely on GDP alone to measure the success of a nation. Gallup, through its extensive behavioural economic research, has discovered that residents’ lives do not always improve with rising GDP. This is an era in which government and business leaders need to understand more about residents’ wellbeing to move their nations and organizations forward. Healthways, through its workplace well-being programs, has learned that measuring wellbeing translates to behavioural change that increases productivity and reduces healthcare costs.

At the event, Gallup, Healthways and an expert panel will discuss:
-     new findings from the first three months of daily wellbeing tracking in the UK
-     how leaders can use these wellbeing data to transform UK residents’ health, happiness and productivity

Speakers include: Jim Harter PhD, Gallup chief scientist, Workplace Management and Wellbeing; Ben Leedle, chief executive officer, Healthways; Jim Clifton, chief executive officer, Gallup; Dr David Halpern, director, Cabinet Office Behavioural Insight Team; and Paul Allin, director, Measuring National Well-being Programme, Office for National Statistics.

Chair: Matthew Taylor, chief executive, the RSA.

The event will start at 9.30am on Tuesday 12 April. Registration opens from 9am - refreshments will be available.

About the Gallup-Healthways UK Well-Being Index

The Gallup-Healthways UK Well-Being Index’s frequency and breadth will add timely, comprehensive and globally comparable data to the national debate on wellbeing. Gallup’s questions align with surveys it conducts in more than 150 countries, providing a global and regional frame to examine which nations have the highest wellbeing, what drives wellbeing and which policy areas can have the most profound effect on wellbeing.

The Gallup-Healthways UK Well-Being Index will provide consistent intelligence based on ongoing measurement of U.K. residents’ life evaluation, emotional and physical health, healthy behaviors, work environments and access to basic necessities. Leaders interested in advancing U.K. residents’ wellbeing can use these data to continuously monitor and analyse metrics known to correlate with real-world economic outcomes and translate findings into effective policies.
