RSA Keynote

Out of the ashes, what kind of country do we want to build?

David Lammy MP predicted the riots of 2011 a year before they took place, and spoke out passionately on behalf of his Tottenham constituents following the violence. He now visits the RSA to present his unique take on the causes of the unrest and their implications for the future.

He draws on his experience of growing up in Tottenham - the area he now represents and the place where the riots began. He explores the human stories behind the headlines, and describes the ‘cultural cocktail’ that led to the disturbances.

Above all, he seeks to explain why the breakdown of law and order was so swift and so widespread, and to offer a fresh, new way forward for Britain.

Chair: Matthew Taylor, chief executive, RSA.
