RSA Thursday - The Power of the Political Cartoon

9th Oct 2008; 13:00

Event Venue:RSA 8 John Adam Street London WC2N 6EZ

In the week that Parliament reconvenes, controversial cartoonist Martin Rowson visits the RSA to discuss his career as a ‘visual journalist’ and to trace the intriguing history of the political cartoon.

Martin Rowson will be in conversation with novelist and journalist, Will Self

Rowson’s style is visceral and deliberately provocative, and he sees himself following in the tradition of eighteenth-century satirists and cartoonists, such as Gillray. How has cartooning and satirical art influenced political culture and public opinion in the past, and what is its status today?
