Ivan Lewis
Ivan Lewis is Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport. Ivan has been a Member of Parliament for Bury South since 1997. He was first Elected as MP in 1997, then re-elected in 2001, 2005 and 2010. Ivan was born, raised, and has lived all his life in the constituency.
In 1990 he was elected as a local councillor in Sedgley ward, Prestwich.
Prior to being elected an MP, Ivan worked in the local voluntary sector throughout his working life for Outreach, Contact Community Group and was latterly Chief Executive of the Manchester Jewish Federation.
Ivan's work in Parliament has included the following appointments:
- 2001: Minister for Education and Skills
- 2005: Minister for the Treasury
- 2006: Minister for Care Service in the department of Health
- 2008: Minister for International Development
- 2009: Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs
