Gerry Acher CBE LVO

Gerry Acher, CBE LVO is Chair of the RSA.  Aged 61, he was a member of the Board of KPMG and Senior Partner of its London office until the end of 2001.

He champions issues on sustainability, climate change, corporate social responsibilities ethical, diversity and educational agendas He is Deputy Chairman of Camelot Group plc where he also chairs the Advisory Panel on Social Responsibility.

He assumed the Chair of Camelot on an interim basis in Spring 2004 handing over in the autumn of that year to Sir Peter Middleton. He was previously a non-executive director of BPB and was actively involved in defending the company, as a member of the defence committee, against the hostile bid from St. Gobain.

He chairs a London Mayor Commission to consider whether London should have a major international convention centre. He chairs the London Climate Change Partnership that advises on how London should be adapting to living with the results of a changing climate.

He was a member of the Government's Advisory Committee for Business and the Environment (ACBE) 2000-2004 and is a member of its successor task force on Sustainable Production and Consumption.

He is Vice-Chairman of Motability and Chairman of its Oversight Committee; the charity which helps disabled people become mobile; he was awarded the CBE in the 1999 Birthday Honours for his work in this area. This charity overseas the operating company leasing some 400,000 cars to disabled people.

He is a member of the Advisory Board of Heart of the City and recently took over as Chairman under Lord George's presidency. He is a Trustee of the KPMG Foundation.
