Scott Burnham

Scott Burnham is a creative director, writer and consultant who views design as an open platform. He created Amsterdam's Urban Play project in collaboration with Droog Design in 2008 as a city-wide exploration of open source urban design. An early proponent of IKEA Hacker, he has recently brought the project to Amsterdam, 2008, and Oslo, 2009.

He has directed projects including Will Alsop’s SuperCity, 'The China
Show: Contemporary Creative China', 'Urban Oasis' with Berlin’s Office for Subversive Architecture, and ‘At Home’ with Peter Saville while Creative Director of Urbis from 2003-2006. Other credits include large-scale collaborations with Stefan Sagmeister, NL Architects, London’s National Theatre, and citywide projects in London, Montreal, Prague, and Barcelona.

An international speaker and author on open source approaches to
design and urbanism, Burnham has addressed the International
Conference on European Policy and the World Urban Development Congress on the topic and is a guest lecturer at institutions including Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and Design, London, and the Art Institute of Chicago. His writing credits include contributions to numerous periodicals, co-authoring the book Visualizing the City, Routledge Press 2008, and most recently a feature on urban design hacks for CITY in Sydney.

In 2009 Burnham became project director for the Premsela Foundation’s Design Trust program and continues to work with a number of global partners on design strategies and projects based on open source and hacking methodologies. He is currently creating the Designing Inspiration at Cube Lounge event series for Nissan.
