Bonnie Greer
Bonnie Greer is a playwright, poet and critic. She was born in America and studied theatre in Chicago with David Mamet, and in New York with Elia Kazan. She has lived in Britain since 1986, where she has worked mainly in theatre. She has had numerous plays produced for both stage and radio, and was winner of the Verity Bargate Award.
Bonnie has been Arts Council Playwright in Residence for the Soho Theatre and for the Black Theatre Co-operative, and Arts Council of England Playwright in Residence for the Pascal Theatre Company. She was a theatre critic for Time Out and is a frequent contributor to TV, Radio and newspaper reviews. She has played Joan Of Arc on the Paris stage. She has had many plays produced by BBC Radio, including a translation of The Little Prince, and her play, Jitterbug was presented in London at the Arcola in 2001. Most recently her play Ella, meet Marilyn sold out at the Edinburgh Festival in 2006 at The Pleasance.
Bonnie is Chair of writernet, trustee of the British Museum, Theatre Royal Stratford East and the Serpentine Gallery. She is a board member of the Royal Opera House and has been member of the judging panel for the Orange Prize 2000, Samuel Johnson prize and Whitbread Novel prize 2003.
She has published, Hanging by her Teeth a novel and a collection of short stories, So very English and How Maxine Learned to Like her Legs.
