When Joanne was young, her father worked two jobs and together with her mother ran a newsagents. Joanne was educated at state school and she says she is from a 'normal background' and has an understanding of how hard life can be, but also what motivates and helps people. Joanne wants to stand up for people who can't stand up for themselves. She believes that the only way for her to bring about real change was to be in Parliament. She always voted Conservative and has always been a party member and activist.
