Niall Ferguson, MA, D.Phil. is Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History at Harvard University and William Ziegler Professor at Harvard Business School.
He is a resident faculty member of the Minda de Gunzberg Centre for European Studies. He is also a Senior Research Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford University, and a Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. As a historian, he specialised in economics, finance and colonialism.
A prolific commentator on contemporary politics and economics, Niall Ferguson is a contributing editor for the Financial Times and a regular contributor to Newsweek. He also works with television and radio channels on both sides of the Atlantic.
Niall is Philippe Roman Chair in History and International Affairs at LSE IDEAS for the 2010-2011 academic year.
Niall has published a number of history books on a wide range of themes from economics and finance to colonialism and counterfactual history, including Empire: The Rise and Demise of the British World Order and the Lessons for Global Power (Basic, 2003), Colossus: The Rise and Fall of the American Empire (Penguin, 2004) and The Ascent of Money: A Financial History of the World (Penguin, 2008).
His latest book is Civilisation: The West and the Rest (Allen Lane, March 2011).
