Michael Gernon is the Principal of the  RSA Academy

Mick Gernon was appointed to his first Headship in 1999 and was, at the time, one of the youngest Secondary headteachers in the country.  Under his leadership, Aldersley High School, a specialist Technology College in Wolverhampton, went through a six year period of transformation and improvement which was recognised through a number of national and local awards.  Results at the school rose from 21% in 1998 to 72% in 2005.

Michael was then Principal Advisor for Schools with KPMG’s Government Advisory Service which focused on national developments including curriculum development and planning for specialised diplomas. Michael has also worked with the Midlands Leadership Centre and KPMG on the DfES Financial Management in Schools national programme.

The RSA Academy in Tipton was formally opened by His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh in November 2008.  The curriculum of the Academy is based on the RSA’s  Opening Minds which is a set of competences and skills which challenge students to think, to learn, to manage people, information and situations; all of which will enable them to become good citizens and will equip them for life and work in the twenty first century.
