Mark Adams is Managing Director, Vitsœ

Mark Adams is a subscriber to the ethos that more of us should live better with less that lasts longer. He has long believed in the value of intelligent and durable design, a philosophy that is central to him today as managing director of Vitsœ.

A fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Adams lectures as well as judging graduate awards. He came to design through a fascination with the way things are made. In 1985 he was introduced to the Dane, Niels Vitsœ, who in 1959 had founded the company, Vitsœ, in Germany to realise the furniture designs of the now legendary German designer, Dieter Rams. Both Rams and Vitsœ shared a fundamental belief that good design should be long-term in its outlook. This belief has never seemed more relevant than today and is central to Adams' thinking.

Adams established Vitsœ in the UK in 1986 and, following Niels Vitsœ's retirement, transferred the entire company and its production to Britain in 1995.  In response to the company's increasing success, Adams opened Vitsœ at 72 Wigmore Street in London's West End in 2004. Under Adams' direction, the business has not only grown strongly but has developed the philosophy of Rams. Indeed, to this day, Rams works closely with Adams.

In addition, in 1997 Adams initiated a partnership with cult retailer Murray Moss. This partnership has now endured for ten years with Moss acting as Vitsœ's US distributor from both Moss's New York and Los Angeles stores.  Vitsœ continues to attract an ever-increasing international audience and sells directly to customers around the world with retail presences in the UK, US, Ireland, Sweden and Australia.
