Dr Dan Plesch is Director designate of the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy at the School of Oriental and African Studies.

Dr Plesch is one of Britain's leading public intellectuals. He has been appointed Academic Director of the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy at the School of Oriental and African Studies. He has been a consultant to Kroll Security International and Senior Associate of the Foreign Policy Centre. He is a commentator for the BBC, CNN and Sky News.

Previously, he was the Senior Research Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute (2001-2003) and founding Director of the Washington DC-based, British American Security Information Council (1987-2001). Publications include Britain's Energy Future (2006), The Future of Britain's WMD, (2006), A Case to Answer (2004), The Beauty Queen's Guide to World Peace (2004), Preparing for the First Use of Nuclear Weapons (1987), contributions to academic journals and numerous newspapers, including the New York Times, Washington Post, The Financial Times, The Times, The Guardian, New Statesman, Esquire.

He has served as an advisor to the British government and provided expert evidence to the US Congress and the UK Parliament. He gave the keynote address to the official conference on the London bombings of 7/7/05, and was invited to give a plenary address to the World Congress on Renewable Energy in 2006.
