Rt. Hon Lord Paddy Ashdown KBE

Paddy Ashdown, born in New Delhi in 1941, served as an officer in the Royal Marines in the Far East and in Northern Ireland from 1959-1972 including with the Royal Marines Commandos and the Special Boat Section. After a period in the Diplomatic Service, he entered politics representing Yeovil as a Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament

After his time as Leader of the Liberal Democrats, he was Knighted and then raised to the peerage as Lord Ashdown of Norton-sub-Hamdon. From May 2002 to January 2006, he was the High Representative for Bosnia and HerzegovinaIn recognition of his work there, he was awarded the highest Diplomatic Service honour, the GCMG, in 2006. Most recently he has been appointed to chair a Strategic Review of Parading in Northern Ireland.
