Sir Mike Tomlinson CBE is Chief Adviser of London Challenge and former H. M. Chief Inspector of
Schools.
Sir Mike Tomlinson is Chief Adviser of London Challenge - the
government’s £80 million campaign to raise standards in London schools. He
is a former H. M. Chief Inspector of Schools, a post which he held until his retirement in 2002. Shortly after his
retirement, he led an enquiry (the Tomlinson enquiry) into the controversy
surrounding A-level grading, and was then appointed chair of the 14–19 Working
Group in 2003. He was until recently Chair of the Hackney Learning Trust, where he led a
transformation of secondary education, including the creation of new academies.
