Carolyn Unsted is Deputy Director of Children’s Services in London
Borough of Bexley with responsibility for Schools and Educational
Achievement.
Previously she was the Assistant Director for Standards and Achievement in the London Borough of Lewisham. As a School Improvement Partner she works with and challenges schools to improve, so she has a strong focus on raising standards and improving the quality of education for all children and young people from 0 – 19. She was a headteacher and senior manager in comprehensive, selective and non-selective schools and an Ofsted Inspector for English, Media and Special Educational Needs from 1998 – 2002. At the DfES (now DCSF) Carolyn was policy leader for parents and their involvement in children’s learning, developing a strategic national vision around the engagement of parents and communities in partnerships with schools. She has been on the Board of Trustees for the Fatherhood Institute since 2004.
