Georgios Varouxakis

Georgios Varouxakis specialises in the history of political thought and intellectual history, mainly British and French in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as the history and types of nationalism. His research to date has focused particularly on political thought on nationhood, nationalism, patriotism, cosmopolitanism and empire, as well as on Franco-British mutual perceptions and intellectual relations, and on the political thought of John Stuart Mill.

He is the author of the books Mill on Nationality (2002) and Victorian Political Thought on France and the French (2002) and the coeditor of Utilitarianism and Empire (2005). He has also published many articles on political thought on nationhood, international relations, John Stuart Mill, and Greek nationalism. He is currently completing a book on British political thought on nationalism, patriotism, cosmopolitanism and empire in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
