David Walker edits Public, the monthly magazine published by the Guardian for senior public sector executives and was formerly the chief leader writer of the Independent. He is a member of the Economic and Social Research Council, an on-executive director of the National Centre for Social Research and a trustee of the Nuffield Trust for health policy studies. He is the author of the Times Guide to the New British State andco-author of Sources Close to the Prime Minister.
