A Short History of Bright Ideas: The RSA and the Road to 21st Century Enlightenment
29th Apr 2010
York Medical Society, 23 Stonegate, York
Illustrated Lecture by Rob Baker, Head of Archive and Library, Royal Society of Arts
This April RSA Yorkshire is offering a lecture on the history and development of the RSA.
Rob Baker will outline the foundation and development of the RSA, looking particularly at its role in fostering creativity and innovation across the disciplines. He will illustrate how the RSA has operated as a national institution interacting with local individuals and organisation, particularly through its institutions in Union and with examples from Yorkshire. There will be images drawn from the RSA’s significant archives which are still used today as a resource for Fellows and researchers alike.
The venue for this event is the fascinating headquarters of the York Medical Society (founded 1834): developed from timber-framed house which dates back at least to the 16th century, it merits a visit in its own right.
Please note that the building is very old, and there are some steps to the entrance door. Anyone with access issues is asked to contact us well beforehand.
