RSA A+NZ AGM 2011
14th May 2011
The Grace Sydney
Corner of
John Corrigan
John is the founder and Principal of Group 8 Education, which works with schools to help teachers better understand how children learn and develop. Group 8 Education provides professional development that incorporates recent research into how our brains handle change and that fosters th best conditions for stimulating learning and change in both adults and children.
According to John "How a teacher listens to a child in the classroom quite literally determines how the child's brain develops into adulthood". Teachers and, indeed, an individual teacher can play a huge part in a child's development. And effective teaching requires effective listening. Research also indicates that a single adult who genuinely cares for a disadvantaged or damaged child is the minimum necessary for that child to recover and develop normally.
John's background is in strategy consulting, corporate and business unit planning, and change management – in the transformational change of organisations. He has an MBA from INSEAD.
Through Group 8 Education, John has taken what he has learned about the way the brain functionsand develops, the way we learn, the way we teach, etc. and applied this in schools, working withteachers to help them better understand the way children learn and develop.
