John Preston MA Dip TP RTPI IHBC FRSA, Historic Environment Manager for Cambridge, and Education Secretary for the Institute of Historic Building Conservation

Cost £15

A chance to hear about, and get involved in, evolving ideas at both local and national levels.
John is working on a draft Historic Environment Strategy for Cambridge. In this evening walkabout and talk he will discuss evolving ideas, and seek your thoughts, on some of the key issues (including climate change, growth, access, and
managing change). What does Cambridge mean to you? How would you reconcile competing challenges in a city of international importance for both its legacy from the past, and its current ideas? The Cambridge challenges will be set into the broader context of the Government consultation on Planning Policy for the Historic Environment.
Meet outside the Hotel at 6.30 for circuit walkabout for approximately an hour, Finger Buffet, short talk and discussion on return to the Hotel. Numbers are limited so please book now: the closing date is Friday 7th August.

If you are unable to attend the meeting you may wish to ‘have your say’ in the kind of meetings you would like to attend. We plan, in the first instance, to have bi-monthly meetings informal but with a focus. We would like to have suggestions for the type of focus, e.g. lecture/presentation, debate, developing a project of local interest, etc. We hope ideas will be suggested and offers to lead a meeting made by Fellows. We would be interested in suggestions for a venue, one which would have refreshment available but enable a meeting to take place in ‘private’, and at not too great a cost! So we look forward to your ideas and comments. Please email Gladys Jones or telephone 01638 500404
