Terra Madre
30th Apr 2009
"Print & Broadcast Media treatment of Food and Sustainability." This is an event created following the publication of the UK Italian Film Festival 2009 Programme.
TERRA MADRE (a film about “Slow Food” and Sustainability) - The Edinburgh Filmhouse, Lothian Road.
Media and Creative Industries Special Interest Group meal for SIG members and invited guests beforehand at zucca (nearby at 15-17 Grindlay Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9AX) at 1900.
The timing of the meal is to ensure Fellows have had the chance also to have attended the regular monthly and recently Outreach initiated Edinburgh Network evening (or at least most of it). The Film Festival programme is very recent.
RSA Fellows who have already attended Media and Creative Industries Special Interest Group events and their friends and guests are advised that this interesting film – in Italian with sub-titles - is one of the many excellent films from the 2009 Italian Film Festival, during which films are shown in Dublin, London, Glasgow, Inverness, St Andrews, Manchester and Edinburgh. The Media and Creative Industries Special Interest Group that those interested in participating may book in for a fixed price meal at zucca, to commence at 1900. It is proposed discussion at dinner will explore the potential for print, cinema and broadcast media to change cultural attitudes to food, climate change and sustainability etcetera. RSA Fellows are assumed conversant with the Slow Food Movement. The Film Festival programme states: “In this film, Ermanno Olmi examines whether Slow Food has found an ingenious way of solving such global problems as climate change and starvation”. See also the Italian Film Festival. The Slow Food Movement believes food should taste good, be produced in a clean way and be fairly traded.
