Fellows mentor young achievers
RSA Fellows are mentoring the winners of this year’s Young Achievers Trust Awards. They are offering practical advice to the young achievers, helping them to take their various projects forwards.
Young achiever, Ryan Harston is starting up dance competitions in his local area, tackling issues such as self respect, leadership and communication with his peers. He is being mentored by RSA Fellow Simon Webb who is a freelancer working in arts administration.
Tracie Trimmer-Platman is another Fellow who is helping the young achievers. She is working to help Claire Matthews engaging students to tackle grass-roots issues on a project supporting children working on rubbish tips in Manila. Tracie has been on hand to offer advice and support to the project which is among many from the SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) project at Kings College London. Another Fellow, Sue Gillie has organised pro bono legal assistance for help with funding the SIFE projects.
The Young Achievers Trust was set up to harness the potential of young people to engage and work with communities by celebrating exceptional young volunteers and creating peer-led role models to encourage volunteering. Winners are also offered complimentary Fellowship for a year to enable them to continue their relationship with the RSA. Senior Fellowship Researcher Laura Billings explains why the RSA has invited the young achievers to join the Fellowship, ‘the stories of how much they have achieved using their own efforts, imagination and time are so inspiring that we knew they would be a fantastic addition to the Fellowship’.
