RSA Arts & Ecology fund artist on Arctic trip

In September this year, RIBA president and architect Sunand Prasad and architect, engineer and artist Francesca Galeazzi will set sail for Disko Bay in the High Arctic along with a crew of 40 musicians, writers, artists and scientists. The RSA Arts & Ecology project and Cape Farewell are funding Sunand Prasad’s place on the boat and is working closely with ARUP Associates.

The expedition is the sixth similar project organised by Cape Farewell. The expedition aims to provide insights into the vulnerable state of the unique ecosystem of the Arctic and the effects of climate change.

This year’s expedition has a strong musical influence including notable musicians, Laurie Anderson, Martha Wainwright, Jarvis Cocker, Moby and Brian Eno. Over the course of nine days the crew will have access to expert guides, oceanographers and glaciologists. From Disko Bay, the voyage will head north to Labrador where the scientists will complete their research into mapping ocean currents. The artists are encouraged to wait until the expedition before developing ideas for new work.

Daily live web broadcasts, blogs and images will be available throughout the expedition along with more information about Cape Farewell’s activities at www.capefarewell.com
