RSA conference on primary reform
Recent reviews of the primary school curriculum have raised important questions about the nature of what we teach in primary schools and how the curriculum needs to change. In the light of growing calls for curriculum reform, the RSA is holding a national conference, What next for the Primary Curriculum? Opening Minds at Primary School, on 3 November to present its vision for primary education. The conference will explore what the RSA’s successful curriculum framework has to offer primary schools in a changing policy environment. Speakers at the event include Sir Jim Rose, author of the Primary Curriculum review, Barry Sheerman MP, chairman of the House of Commons Select Committee for Children, Schools and Families, and Matthew Taylor, chief executive of the RSA.
“Opening Minds has helped embed skills teaching and cross-curricular working in schools across the country for 11-14 year olds,” said Ian McGimpsey, senior manager for education at the RSA. “The primary curriculum is changing in important ways. This event will provide a unique opportunity to hear from leading policymakers about what curriculum change means for primary schools, and to hear from practitioners about Opening Minds.”
As well as hearing what the experts in curriculum reform have to say, conference delegates will be able to learn about the experience of primary schools currently implementing Opening Minds and to network with other experts and practitioners in the field.
The conference will take place on Tuesday 3 November at the RSA’s House in London. To book your place, please visit Opening Minds Primary Event or email openingmindsevents@rsa.org.uk
