Stakeholders debate offender learning and skills
The RSA is working with a diverse range of stakeholders to examine the key themes in offender learning and skills.
This offers a rare opportunity for prison governors, education, probation and prison staff and charities working with offenders to discuss the issues.
The groups, which meet throughout the year, will stimulate a wider debate and spread knowledge of emerging and best practice. Each group’s discussion will be captured and synthesised for publication. The criminal justice service has been described as a secret garden within which the work of prisons is hidden. This crucial public service performs many functions, including public safety, punishment and deterrence. It is dedicated to rehabilitating offenders in a bid to reduce reoffending.
The RSA wants to shed light on this complex world and has initiated the Prison Learning Network, which has a focus on offender learning and skills.
