Discovering the people who make things happen
16 Jan 2012
As part of the RSA’s Citizen Power Peterborough programme, RSA researchers have been piloting ChangeMakers, an innovative approach to identifying the key individuals in a local area who create positive change, and mapping the connections between them.
The results of this research, which will be published in a forthcoming report, indicate that Peterborough has a diverse local network of ChangeMakers, whose skills and expertise can be an enormous resource for the city.
It also identified opportunities for these individuals to have a greater impact by working together and connecting with local projects and initiatives. The next phase of the project will establish a ChangeMakers’ network to help make the most of this untapped potential.
The network, which will meet for the first time in February 2012, draws on the experience of other successful RSA Fellows’ networks across the world. Over the coming year, the Fellowship team at the RSA will help this group to collaborate, share their skills and offer advice to local projects and initiatives.
RSA Fellows are setting an example for how a group of committed individuals can bring about practical social change, and this project is one example of how the tools and techniques they’ve developed can have an impact outside of the Fellowship.
We’d encourage Fellows in and around Peterborough to connect with the new network, and if you’d like to find out more about what they’re planning please contact Sam Thomas. If you feel that your local area could benefit from a similar project, please contact project lead Ben Dellot who is hoping to develop further ChangeMakers’ networks elsewhere in the UK.
