Introducing the New Fellowship Council

Have you made a practical contribution to civil society through voluntary, social or community organisations?

Do you challenge current thinking; show bravery or innovation in your actions; or pioneer positive change?

Have you used your expertise and enthusiasm to participate in RSA projects or wider work?

Do you participate in communities and networks, and show a generosity in sharing ideas and resources?

Would you like to be more involved as a Fellow in the governance of the RSA?

If so, we would love to hear from you because important and exciting changes are planned. It has become clear that local and regional groups of Fellows often feel disenfranchised or unheard by the centre. At the same time some Fellows tell us that their local and regional programme of activities does not fully reflect their expectations of the Society.

Trustees have therefore decided to turn the current Advisory Council into a Fellowship Council.  Its focus will be to work with RSA staff to ensure the RSA is better at supporting Fellows’ activities and that Fellows’ activities are better aligned with the projects and charitable aims of the Society.  An early task would be to agree a new Fellows’ Charter – outlining more explicitly the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of Fellowship.

It’s important that the Fellowship Council is broad and representative.  For this reason, the Trustee Board agreed that it should consist of:

  • 20 Fellows elected directly on a regional basis; and
  • 20 Fellows who will be nominated by Trustees.

Two members (normally the Chair and Deputy Chair) of the Council will serve as full members of the Trustee Board.

We are now inviting Fellows to nominate for election to the Fellowship Council. Membership of the Council will mean more than just attending meetings, you will be an active and engaged Fellow that works to further the interests of the Fellowship and the RSA.

For more information, including nomination criteria and details about the nominations and election processes, please visit the Fellowship Council page. You can also contact us by email or by calling the Fellowship team on +44 (0)20 7451 6826.

We look forward to hearing from you!
