Focus on: Women
Focus On: Women
A Fellowship Council working-group initiative to raise awareness of the RSA among women.
The RSA was pioneering in allowing women into the Fellowship from our founding in 1754. "Ladies as well as gentlemen are invited into this subscription, as there is no reason to imagine they will be behind-hand in a generous and sincere regard for the good of their country" William Shipley, Founder of the RSA, Dec 1753
Since then, the number of female Fellows has dropped to under a quarter of the total Fellowship and we would welcome ideas and support to raise awareness of the RSA among women, and increase the number of female Fellows.

Nominate: Tell us about other women you know who might be inspired by our mission
Your nomination of friends and colleagues, who you think might be inspired by the RSA’s mission and values, is a way for you to share your optimism for building a progressive, inclusive and capable society. Fellow get Fellow nominations are an important way for Fellows to help add experience, enthusiasm, and expertise to the Fellowship community – and a key way of supporting the RSA’s goals.
Exhibition: images and stories from the RSA Archives
Examples from our archives of the involvement of women in the RSA, and the ways in which we have attempted to tackle issues which have particularly affected women throughout our history.
Debate: The Equality Gap, listen to the audio
Gender equality campaigns are arguably one of the most urgent and relevant social justice movements in the UK today, so why are they marginalised, trivialised, and sniggered at or ignored by both men and women?
Speakers to include: Kat Banyard, feminist campaigner and author of The Equality Illusion; Dr Nina Power, Senior Lecturer in Philosophy, Roehampton University; Deb Leary OBE, Founder and CEO of Forensic Pathways and President of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs. Chair: Ceri Goddard, Chief Executive of the Fawcett Society
