The Commissariat Stores - 115 William Street, Brisbane City QLD 4000

The RSA is holding an event in the coming weeks on the representation, retention and development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Queensland’s workforce.  Please see the leaflet for further details.

There will be a presentation from Karen O’Brien, Manager, Indigenous Relations at the Department of Public Works.  In 2010, she was awarded a Queensland Government Smithsonian Fellowship to research the consultation and design processes undertaken by the National Museum of the American Indian in the construction of their museum.

A highlight of Karen’s fellowship was to be chaperoned by Mrs Shirley Cloud-Lane, a Navajo/Southern Ute woman and Smithsonian employee, to a number of American Indian reservations in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah.
Shirley introduced Karen to local employers and supervisors where she was given the opportunity to discuss employment practices and how they impact on American Indian people. Karen was guided through culturally designed public buildings, seeing first hand, traditional and contemporary housing.

There will be no charge for this event. The costs will be covered by the RSA Australia and New Zealand.

RSVP:  Please RSVP by email to the RSA A+NZ Administrator, Leigh-anne Shannon by 1 November.
