Devon and Exeter Institution, 7 The Close, Exeter EX1 1EZ

Our speaker this month in Chris Wright, chief executive of the highly successful social enterprise Devon Doctors. Under his leadership it has evolved from a loose collection of GP cooperatives which covered parts of Devon, to a large organisation with a national reputation for excellence, assessed as one of the highest quality providers in England for each of the last 5 years.  It runs a range of medical support services for the public and the military and is currently working with Devon Partnership Trust to help modernise the delivery of healthcare within the three Devon prisons.
Chris Wright joined the organisation in 2002 and has overseen its growth in annual turnover from £1million to £25million.  All of his working life has been in public service, including managerial positions with the pre-privatised Yorkshire Electricity Board and lecturing in business and finance in further education colleges, before joining the NHS on a fast track Chief Executive development programme in 1993. He left his position as Director of Health Improvement for Mid Devon Primary Care Trust to join Devon Doctors. He states that his experience of working within the NHS left him looking for a way to combine the high ethical standards of behaviour in the public sector with a much more business-focused approach to service delivery.
He will explore social enterprise, past, present and future through the lens of his experience with Devon Doctors.

This is a free event for Fellows and their guests.
