Message from the Chairman

As we enter the holiday season, many of us are thinking about our charitable giving for the year. As you do so, I hope you will consider making a gift to the Fellows of the RSA in the United States.

Your fellowship in the RSA comes with many benefits.  I hope you have taken advantage of some of them in the past year.  The flagship website of the RSA has continued to grow in terms of the content it provides to fellows and it has spawned offspring that include discussion groups and other social networking opportunities. The RSA in London has appointed a new Senior Networks Manager to accelerate our ability to engage with fellows across the RSA global network.

Here at home, RSA fellows in the US are expanding communications networks, undertaking interesting projects in their communities and participating in numerous events with like-minded groups.

Your Board of Trustees has been invigorated by the addition of four new members in 2011 and we are taking steps that will strengthen the RSA-US as a platform our fellows can use to pursue projects, develop programs and network with one another for discussions and action surrounding important issues of the day.

Among the steps we have taken as a Board is to help fund a networking opportunity for fellows in our very active Chattanooga group and our largest concentration of fellows in New York.  Members of the Board stepped up to the plate to supply crucial funding support to make that happen in September.  We would like to have the resources to do more of that in the year ahead.  When RSA Fellows meet in person, good things invariably happen!

We are also planning for 2012 a new program to draw young people to the RSA-US by offering a scholarship to help defray the cost of fellowship dues to the organization. This program is still being developed, but we expect a launch next year.

Your annual dues to the RSA support our basic operations. Our outstanding Fellowship Director Lynn Broadbent, under the direction of the Board, manages our online communications, facilitates events for fellows, and acts as our liaison to the “home office” in London. Carrying out additional projects such as those outlined above requires additional resources.

With this in mind, I hope you will consider a donation to the RSA-US before the end of the year. Not only will your gift be tax deductible in 2011, it will also jump-start important activities for our organization in 2012.

Many thanks for your consideration and thank you for your continued fellowship.

Sincerely,

Peter A. Peyser
Chairman
