Working Together
During the first half of September 2009, Fellowship meetings took place in Chicago, Chattanooga, New York, Boston, and Washington DC. The events and the discussions were as diverse as Fellows themselves. We saw practical examples of individuals, organizations and communities working together to and achieving impressive results, such as downtown revitalization, public art, incentivizing green building practice, science and art programs for under-served kids.
One of the recurring themes was education. Issues in education vary from state to state and even within different areas of the same city, but the desire to provide good public education for all children is universal and recognized as critical to quality of life and economic vitality.
Sustainability seems to be a part of almost every discussion, whether on high speed rail or corporate responsibility, science education or urban renewal. There is a compelling opportunity - perhaps a responsibility - for multidisciplinary collaboration on finding long term solutions.
