Legacy

Gift Aid

"As a Fellow of the RSA I fully support its aims, particularly in the fields of education and enterprise. I am delighted to demonstrate the depth of my commitment by pledging a legacy to the RSA."
Graham Spooner FRSA

One of the most important ways of making a gift to the RSA is through a legacy. Throughout our history, many exceptional individuals have been supported by income derived from legacies. In recent times, the Onians Fellowship was established in memory of the RSA's late Chairman, Dick Onians. This fund has supported young entrepreneurs and nascent enterprises. Another example is the bequest of the late Lord Bossom which, from 1965, has endowed many lectures.

How your legacy can help

By remembering the RSA in your Will, you allow us to plan and invest in projects that will make a difference to some of the biggest issues facing the world today and in the future.

Your Will

A legacy for general purposes is the most significant way in which you could help to further the Society's aims. It would allow the Society to choose the most effective and beneficial way, at any time in the future, to make use of your gift. However, a Will is an incredibly personal document and we are aware that some Fellows have very specific ideas of what they would like their bequests to support, which the RSA is very happy to discuss in confidence The RSA advises anyone wishing to make a will, or amending an existing one, to see a solicitor.

If you have already made a Will but have decided to leave a bequest to the RSA you can do so by means of a Codicil.

Download a copy of a Codicil as a Word DOC, 27KB

An important point to remember is that a codicil should not be stapled to your Will as this would invalidate it.

As a charity, bequests to the RSA are exempt from Inheritance Tax, thus offsetting the burden on the rest of your estate.

Living legacy

We have several Fellows who have opted for a living legacy whereby they agree to bequeath a certain amount to the RSA but make an annual contribution with the proviso that the residual amount will be due from their estate on death less any donations already made. For example, you might decide to make an annual contribution of £1,000 to the RSA over a period of ten years. You would then make provision in your Will to bequeath £10,000 to the RSA, less the sum of the annual payments.
