Governance Review Recommendations
The Board's recommendations have emerged from research carried out by the RSA's Governance Advisory Group, which was formed in response to a motion put forward at the 2010 AGM. In summary, the recommendations are:
- A Board with a majority of elected Trustees (seven elected and five co-opted). The decision to have an elected majority was taken following consultation with the Fellowship;
- A Fellowship Council of thirty five elected and five co-opted Fellows instead of the current twenty elected and twenty co-opted FC;
- A threshold of 200 Fellows required to table a resolution (rather than the initial proposal of 250 in June) and 500 Fellows to call a Special General Meeting. The previous thresholds had been set when the RSA had a much smaller Fellowship. As a proportion of the overall Fellowship the new thresholds are low in comparison to other membership organisations.
- A more integrated and flexible approach to Regional and National structures.
Based on best practice guidance, research and consultation, these recommendations aim to strengthen the links between the Fellowship, the Board, the Fellowship Council and the RSA Regions and Nations.
