David Archer

East of England

David ArcherI have been an active RSA Fellow for 7 years and am a regular user of the RSA House. I trained as an Engineer and started my career at the BBC before spending 5 years lecturing in Systems Engineering at Hatfield Polytechnic and leading a joint research programme into the technologies that underpin electronic publishing and the internet.

Commercialising my research took me into the private sector including working in a small Cambridge-based consultancy then running the change management division of a larger Anglo-French firm. In my work I saw frequent examples of failing business partnerships which led me and a colleague to found Socia Ltd. to specialise in helping leaders make collaborative systems succeed. We work with individuals, top teams, joint ventures and whole organisations, across the public and private sectors.

Earlier this year I co-authored Collaborative Leadership, examining the theory and practice of this growing field. Born on Tyneside, educated at Cambridge, I have lived in Hertfordshire for over 25 years. My work is balanced between London and clients across the Midlands and East Anglia. I am married, have 2 teenage daughters and am a keen runner and a musician.
