Four Thought

23rd Jan 2012; 18:00

Radio 4 in association with RSA

The next in the series of Radio 4's exciting new talks strand – FOUR THOUGHT – takes place in the RSA's Vaults on Monday 23 January from 6-7.30pm.

Combining two of the trademark elements of both the RSA and Radio 4 - big ideas and evocative storytelling - speakers will be invited to take to the stage ready to air their latest thinking on the trends, ideas, interests and passions that affect our culture and society. Talks will be unscripted, thought-provoking and entertaining, with a personal dimension.

Speakers will include: Robin Gorna, director of Aids Strategy, Advocacy and Policy Ltd., who is concerned that we know how to deal with the problem of HIV/Aids but are losing the political will to successfully tackle it; Gordon Bridger, author of "How I Failed to Save the World", draws on a lifetime's experience working as an economist in developing countries to argue that we need to redesign the spending of overseas aid to stop it doing more harm than good; Bali Rai, author of fiction for teenagers, who thinks we should stop talking about "race" as the best way to deal with "racism"; and Rob Hopkins, the co-founder of the Transition Network, sees  transition to a low carbon economy as the springboard for creative local projects which make communities resilient in a brand new way to the economic challenges that lie  ahead.

Chair: Ben Hammersley, technologist, writer and broadcaster.

FOUR THOUGHT will be broadcast at a later date on BBC Radio 4.

Places for this very special event are strictly limited and we anticipate extremely high demand.
