RSA Arts & Ecology - from project to centre

RSA Arts & Ecology, set up as a research project in 2005 in partnership with Arts Council England, has been renamed the RSA Arts & Ecology Centre. The aim is to be an increasingly recognised resource and catalyst that promotes debate on art and social change and commissions and supports artists interested in the challenges of our time.

The immediate development is the building of a new website, which went live in November, with the writer and journalist William Shaw as its full-time editor. It will grow the existing network, particularly encouraging international connections between artists who often work in relative isolation on issues that may be local in production but are frequently of interest and relevance across the world.

The site will provide information such as a calendar of events, artists' perspectives, provocations and a place for people to contribute to the interface between the arts, environmental issues and their impact on the overall context of climate change.
Debates and activities are being developed for 2009, with the arts team working with partner organisations, Fellows and other RSA project teams. These will take place in a number of places across the UK and internationally.
