Ethical policy

When you hold your event at the RSA House, you are supporting an organisation that takes the environment seriously.

  • We always make sure that, in all our activities, we do what we can to look after the environment.  We also try to change the way people think about the environment and we will continue to review and improve our performance to help achieve this goal.
  • We recycle all our paper, cardboard, cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles, cartridges and any clean packaging with the recycling logo is recycled.
  • 41% of our waste was recycled in 2010.
  •  The RSA is registered with the Environment Agency as a hazardous waste producer. Large catering electrical equipment such as fridges/freezers are disposed of according to the WEEE regulations.
  • All lamps and commercial batteries are disposed of by a recycling company.
  • A purification system called Vivreau has been installed throughout the building providing employees and visitors with cold drinking water. The cups provided are bio-degradable.
  • All urinals are fitted with a water management system. Dual flushes are fitted in toilets as they are replaced.
  • All white paper for printing/photocopying is FSC certified which means it is manufactured from sustainable sources. White paper for printing/photocopying on is not recycled paper but it does have the FSC label which means it is manufactured from a managed forest. We do not use 100% recycled paper as it is discoloured, not consistent in colour and very expensive. All printers and photocopiers can print double-sided. Employees are encouraged to re-use paper in printers.
  • We use eco-friendly detergents wherever possible.
  • Our microfibre cloths and napkins require less washing and are longer-lasting.
  • All pencils provided in the meeting rooms are made out of recycled drinking cups.
  • Our table linen is synthetic by choice so that it can be laundered at a much lower temperature than cotton, therefore using less energy and chemicals.
  • All promotional material is UK sourced and biodegradable where possible. We also send e-brochures to reduce paper usage.
  • Low energy lamps are used in all offices, some meeting rooms and public areas where currently possible. As we refurbish and replace fittings around the building, we replace with  LED or low energy lamps.
  • All public and staff toilets are fitted with light movement  sensors. Where we have refurbished office space and created open plan environment, we have installed light movement sensors.
  • Four new low energy boilers have been installed. These work on a rotation basis. A boiler is only called for when the energy is required. All plant is on a maintenance plan and is replaced with efficient low energy equipment as required.
  • For employees or clients requiring a taxi, we use Green Tomatoes. They use Toyota Prius cars.
