I am the Managing Director of a fire alarm and electrical engineering company established in 1991. I hold a degree in Applied Chemistry and I am currently studying towards becoming ACCA qualified. I also have a long-standing involvement with the local Café Scientifique.
Following the initiative by the RSA SE Region to encourage Fellows to organise local events I have become involved with the RSA Kent Fellows’ Group. This group has been meeting for approximately a year now and I have taken an active role within it, helping to organise events. It is at the suggestion of members of the Kent group that put myself forward as a candidate for the Fellowship Council.
One of the main concerns of the Kent group has been how to appeal to the wide and diverse fellowship of the RSA in a way that the RSA would consider appropriate. I believe that similar concerns have been echoed by a number of groups such as ourselves and I would consider this to be one of the main reasons for the formation of the Fellowship Council.
As part of the Fellowship Council, I would work towards offering these small groups of Fellows a solid foundation from which they can feel confident that any events or projects they choose to undertake are within the bounds of the RSA. Also, to aid the communication and cross-fertilisation between these groups so successful and beneficial events and projects can grow quickly. This in turn, I hope, will enhance the local experience for the all Fellows who wish to be involved.
