I am Professor of Political Communication at the Institute for Communications Studies, University of Leeds. I was previously Professor of e-Democracy at the Oxford Internet Institute and senior research fellow of Jesus College, Oxford. I have written extensively on new forms of political communication and democratic representation, exploring the relationship between old and new media and popular and political culture. Recent publications include The Internet and Democratic Citizenship (Cambridge University Press, 2009), The Media and the Public (Blackwell, 2009) and Public Trust in the News (Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, 2009) I have worked with several governments, broadcasting organisations and communities on innovative ways of involving citizens in everyday decision-making.
I live in Ilkley, work in Leeds and want to see the RSA at the centre of civic life in the cities and towns of Yorkshire.
