Telling Stories in Stoke

12 September 2011

Stoke Stories Open Conference is part of an ongoing programme of work designed to contribute toward the regeneration of Stoke-on-Trent. Regeneration programmes tend to focus on infrastructure, training and education, but do not address how civil society, local voluntary organisations and political leaders can respond to the challenges of life in a post-industrial city. Stoke Stories seeks to address this gap.  The conference will take place on Saturday 15 October, 10am.

A collaborative event supported by the RSA, Staffordshire University, and the Workers' Educational Association, this all day session will bring together representatives of Stoke-on-Trent’s volunteer and third sector community with people from public bodies and local business. It will be an opportunity to celebrate the good work being done across our city and to strengthen the links between all three sectors.

The Open Conference will include a keynote talk, workshops and a community panel event welcoming presentations from local voluntary groups and social enterprises. The workshops will highlight themes such as social enterprise, social media, asset transfer, education and fundraising.  Based on their strength and that of the business plan standing behind them, the most impressive three submissions will be eligible for prizes including RSA Catalyst awards.
During the lunchtime there will be a ‘marketplace’ open to all organisations to host a stand/stall to promote your work and activities. A full programme will be available nearer the event.
