Education
RSA Education seeks to realise the potential of all learners. This aim drives our Education project interests, which are focused on: curriculum innovation, and the promotion of democracy and social justice in education. Our various projects and interventions reflect these agendas.
Curriculum innovation
We seek to develop engaging curricula that meet the learning, wellbeing and civic needs of learners, and is fit for the social and economic demands of contemporary society. This involves:
- broadening the existing curriculum
- ensuring the social, civic and economic relevance of curricula
- meeting learners' needs in terms of educational engagement and achievement, and wellbeing.
Democracy
We support the extension of democratic ownership of teaching and learning by diverse stakeholders. This involves devolution of educational ownership away from central government and towards communities and their diverse stakeholders (including educational institutions and their students and practitioners). An example of this is our Area-Based Curriculum initiative.
Social Justice
Eradication of patterns of exclusion and inequality in educational engagement and attainment is a necessary precursor to realising the potential of all learners. This involves:
- Working towards inclusion and equality in education
- Working against exclusion and patterns of inequality in educational attainment, ownership and engagement.
The RSA also sponsors the RSA Academy in Tipton and is developing an RSA Family of Academies including Whitley Academy in Coventry.
Support us
We are always keen to hear from Fellows of the RSA and other interested parties, and especially welcome support (financial or otherwise) in developing and extending our projects.
