2 June 2010: RSA-shortlisted company competes as European finalist
Findus, whose Fish For Life campaign was selected by judges as one of the UK finalists for entry in to the European Business Awards for the Environment has been picked as one of the ten companies shortlisted by the European Business Awards for the Environment. The awards ceremony will take place on 2 June at the Solvay Library, Brussels. The prizes, awarded by the European Commission every two years, single out European companies that have made an outstanding contributions to sustainable development.
“Preserving the environment makes enormous economic, social and business sense,” said Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for the Environment. “These Awards recognise the most far-sighted, responsible and eco-innovative companies in Europe and play a major role in identifying and promoting best practices. EBAE winners are the best of the best.”
Eleven UK finalists were chosen on 2 March 2010 at an event held at the RSA as part of the RSA Awards Forum.

2 March 2010: European Business Awards for the Environment Finalists announced at the RSA
The RSA put forward eleven winners to be pitched against Business Awards for the Environment winners from across the continent in competition for the prestigious European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE). The biennial awards are presented to companies that demonstrate their commitment to the environment by introducing pioneering and eco-innovative solutions into their business.
The UK has entries in three categories, for Management, Processes and Products and has more entries than any other member state.
The entries include companies improving sustainability in the gas supply and fishing industries; a system for quicker and cheaper road repair for potholes which uses far less energy and fewer materials than conventional repairs; and a new machine to print supermarket till receipts on both sides of the paper, halving the amount of paper used for receipts.

Presenting the awards at the RSA, Environment Minister Dan Norris said:
“I want to congratulate all of our eleven winners and wish them every success in the European competition.
“All of our winners have shown great innovation and invention with new products, processes and systems which provide improved environmental performance and importantly, value for money for their customers.”
